Sharing Reps

Problem on the horizon for the Saints in the backfield. Pierre Thomas [who has been injured] his replacement, Mike Bell, rushed for a career-high 143 yards on 28 carries. The problem is how to divided the carries now. Bell will continue to be a big part of the Saints' offense if and when Thomas returns to the mix. " We feel that Pierre brings a certain element to our running game, and yet Mike Bell has done a good job." Not only that you have to throw Reggie Bush in the equation. Bush and Bell split playing time almost equally in Sunday's game. Payton said Bush was on the field for 37 snaps and Bell for 36. Wouldn't Thomas' return cut into Bush's snaps? Payton said that probably won't be the case, because of the way the Saints like to feature Bush as both a runner and receiver. Pierre Thomas, who was injured in the second preseason game at Houston, said he's not worried about his role when he comes back. "We all have different-type skills," Thomas said. "It's going to keep going with Mike and Reggie. It's just an extra guy coming in to help the team out. I know when I get on the field, I'm going to contribute."
