
Alabama tailback Mark Ingram made history tonight, winning "the closest race ever" to claim the 2009 Heisman Trophy. Ingram beat out Stanford running back Toby Gerhart, Texas quarterback Colt McCoy, Nebraska defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh and Florida quarterback Tim Tebow (in that order). Ingram won with 227 first-place votes and 1,304 overall points. Gerhart finished with 222 first-place votes and 1,276 points. In doing so, Ingram becomes the first player ever in Alabama's storied program to win the Heisman. Before tonight, the best finish was David Palmer (third place) in 1993. He is only the second running back in the last 10 years to win the award and the first since Southern Cal's Reggie Bush in 2005. Below is the video if you missed it:
