Shots Taken

I don't know if you all remember Fran Tarkenton, who took shots at Favre earlier in the season, well he is back at it.

"Well, before that I think the Vikings were clearly the best team. They held this New Orleans offense to under 300 yards. They made Drew Brees look ordinary. He didn't even throw for 200 yards. This is a guy that's throwing for 400, 500 yards. They were the better team. Their offense turned the ball over five times, the Viking offense. And still, if he didn't make this stupid play at the end of the game, they win the game. Now you are in Philadelphia, remember a few years ago when Green Bay played you guys for the, I think it was a championship game ... I think you guys went to overtime. I mean, he throws the ball straight up in the air, freefalls. Do you remember that? I have never seen any quarterback — much less, well, he is going to be a hall of fame quarterback — make plays like that at a critical time. He has done the same thing in the Giants game.

And then he went at Favre again:

"No, I think he has been a great, great player. But I'm not a great fan of Brett Favre's because he goes out and all I heard them talk about is Brett Favre and he is tough, he is getting hit. You know, Peyton Manning gets hit. I have played with a torn ACL. Donovan McNabb gets hit. We all get hit, but he is flopping around and jumping around and he is getting hit and he talks in the soft voice. I would rather it be about the team and not Brett Favre. But I get the idea that it is more about Brett Favre than the team. A quarterback is to make his teammates better, but (he is) not about that. Now as a player, he has been a great player. No question about it. Also, great players, my gosh, I have never seen great quarterbacks make that many bad plays in a critical moment in a playoff game."

You thought that was comedy, wait til you hear what he said about him returning:

"He's going to come back and play. He's theater. He's dramatic. He's going to tell this guy, 'I'm not playing.' ... But here's what he won't do. He won't go to any offseason programs. He won't go to training camp. Let's look at the difference. Here's Peyton Manning. Peyton Manning's all about his team. Peyton Manning, he's helping to put in the offense. He's there in the offseason. He's working with those young receivers. Pierre Garcon and the other kid, I can't even think of his name ... (Austin Collie). He loses Marvin Harrison. He loses (Anthony) Gonzalez before the season started. ... Peyton works with these guys in offseason programs in Indianapolis, and he's teaching them how to play offensive receiver because that's what quarterbacks (should do). Brett didn't do that last year. He won't do it this year."

More on whether Favre will return: "He'll be back there. Keep in mind, how did Minnesota do last year? They won the division championship. They went to the playoffs. (Philadelphia) beat them, but they went to the playoffs. So Brett Favre goes in there. This team, I think they have the best personnel in football. They defend the run better than anybody for three straight years. They rush the passer; they're the leading pass-rush team in football. They've got two of the best running backs in football. They've got one of the great offensive lines in football. And last year with Gus Frerotte and Tarvaris Jackson, whatever his name is, they won the division and they went to the playoffs. Green Bay went to the playoffs with Aaron Rodgers. Last year Favre played with the Jets. They didn't make the playoffs, did they?"

Wow So if your a Favre fan do not get mad at me but at the former Vikings quarterback. I am simply the messenger.

The Hot Teams Cool Off

Game #1

The real Cowboys showed up Sunday and did not disappoint.I at least felt that it would be a close game with Romo blowing it at the end. But it was the opposite but Tony Romo and his stats did come back down to earth on Sunday. Romo lost two of his three fumbles and threw an interception in a 34-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. But if you were to take away those turnovers then Romo had his best individual season of his career completing 22 of 35 passes for 198 yards. There was a more impressive stat though and it was the Vikings had six sacks and 10 hurries. I don't know if the bigger story is Favre and his pants on the ground song or the Cowboys crying about the score being run up. First of all there is no such thing Keith Brooking who was complaining when the last touchdown was scored. But to call one of the best quarterbacks ''classless'' is terrible. We aren't playing recreation or middle school. You get paid to stop things like that. But in other news (as of right now) Wade Phillips is currently going to return as the coach of Cowboys.

Game #2

So maybe Rex Ryan was not crazy about his whole pre-playoffs statements. But I am not even going to lie I thought they were going to be out in the first round. I mean they barely made the playoffs to begin with and now they are 1 game away from the Super Bowl. The Jets gain was the Chargers lost. The Chargers made several key mistakes in the Jets’ 17-14 victory. One is their kicker missing field goals that he normally make. Then you have players causing penalties and just doing dumb things. For the second straight week though, rookie Shonn Greene ran for over 100 yards, while Thomas Jones picked up key yards when the Jets needed them. The rookies have been quite a surprise for the Jets. And what is sad for the Chargers is that, that may have been LT's last game in a Charger uni. This was suppose to have been the Chargers year but it looks like it is Joe Namath, I meant Mark Sanchez.

Fumbling Costs the Vikings Home-Field Adv.

Adrian Peterson said he's never felt more disappointed as an NFL player than he was late Monday night after his fumble in overtime set up Chicago's winning touchdown in a 36-30 Bears victory at Soldier Field. I was rooting for the guy to get the ball in the crunch the whole time because I got tired of seeing Favre throw the ball. So when he does get the ball on a short pass what does he do? He fumbles and gives the Bears the ball and they kick the go-ahead field goal in OT. It was Peterson's seventh fumble of the season and the sixth that he's lost. None was bigger than this. At least he took fault for it saying, "I'm sick right now," he said. "I'm very disappointed. I really feel like I lost this game. We were in position to win the game, and I gave it away." But now you have to question later in the crunch time do you want him in. Personally, I still say yes because of how hard he was running but fumbling is no excuse. He does not want to be known as the back who was a home run threat but could not hold on to the ball. Trust me I am a running back, I should know.

Favre Backseat to Peterson

The Lions were dangerously close winning when young Matthew Stafford threw his first career touchdown pass to give them a 10-0 lead late in the second quarter. "I was worried," admitted old Brett Favre. Brett Favre didn't flinch revealing the Vikings' weekly game plan. "I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to figure it out: if you come in and try to stop everything but Adrian Peterson, you're a fool," Favre said. "So that's where it starts, and that's where it starts with our offense. "I got no problem telling you that our offense is based around Adrian Peterson." Peterson admitted he was "excited" about a potential big play, and he failed to secure the handoff from Favre, instead booting the ball forward and watching as Lions linebacker Ernie Sims corralled it four yards up the field. It was Peterson's fifth fumble and the third one lost in the past three games against the Lions. Anything to it? "I think it's a fluke deal," Peterson said. Ball security has been the singular chink in Peterson's armor; he lost four of nine fumbles last season. But Peterson, as he did against the Browns, sparked his team and finished strong. Peterson had 15 carries for 92 yards, including another highlight touchdown run, this one from 27 yards out. Favre said teams have been aggressive about trying to take him out of the game, and he and the passing offense have to do more to punish teams for focusing on Peterson. Favre says he has no problem sitting in the back seat on a team that's one game better than Chicago and Green Bay in the NFC. Peterson's fumble was the Vikings' only turnover of the game. The Lions turned it over three times, leading to 14 points.

Jets Fined

The NFL has assessed $125,000 in fines to the New York Jets and former coach Eric Mangini for violating the league’s rules on injury reporting with former quarterback Brett Favre last season. Tthe Jets were fined $75,000, and Mangini and Jets president Mike Tannenbaum were fined $25,000 apiece.

Here's the statement:

The NFL has assessed $125,000 in fines for violations of the league’s injury reporting policy by the New York Jets last season. During the final month of the 2008 regular season, the Jets did not disclose as required an injury that the club had identified to the throwing arm of starting quarterback Brett Favre. NFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations Ray Anderson fined the Jets $75,000, Jets Executive Vice President Mike Tannenbaum $25,000, and former head coach Eric Mangini $25,000.

A Little More Cautious

"I may not finish the year. If you would have asked me my first year if I would finish I'd have said, 'I may not,'" Favre said. "No one thought I'd play 18 straight years without missing a game, me included. I have no idea what's going to happen. None." Favre acknowledged as much Wednesday, the day a rocking chair appeared in front of his cubicle in the locker room courtesy of an unknown prankster. If his health were to become a hindrance to Minnesota's success this season, would Favre step aside? "Absolutely. I was receptive to it last year," he said. Jets running back criticized Favre after last season, claiming he should've been benched while the team stumbled down the stretch and missed the playoffs. Favre said Wednesday he felt like he was harming the team with slight misses on some throws. He said he spoke with the general manager, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach but the consensus was to finish it out. So look for either Sage [more likely] or Tarvaris to play a few games to rest the old man especially down the stretch .

Retired Finally [I think]

After months of speculation and debate,[finally] Favre called Vikings coach Brad Childress on Tuesday to tell the coach he won’t be coming out of retirement to play for Minnesota. “It was the hardest decision I’ve ever made,” Favre told ESPN. “I didn’t feel like physically I could play at a level that was acceptable. "The decision, which was first reported by the Star Tribune of Minneapolis, is a stunner for the Vikings after they courted Favre all summer. Adding him would have been viewed by many as the final piece. Although I have to admit, having him with the Vikings would have been an very interesting team and situation up there in the NFC North. Favre turns 40 in October and didn’t think he had enough left to get through a full season. Even though I do not apreciate the retiring and comeback, I have to admit he is one of the best QBs that played the game, hands down.

Side Note: Wouldn't be surprised if something changed

From the horse's mouth

We finally hear something from Favre. I said i was not going to post anything until I heard something concrete from him not "sources". But Brett Favre still isn't sure if he's going to be playing for the Vikings this fall. Favre was a guest on the HBO premiere of "Joe Buck Live" and he said his decision to come out of retirement again will be made primarily on how his arm feels [he had the surgery on the bicep that he tore]. The Vikings is the only team that he has talked about playing for. So the odds are that he will be playing next season in a purple jersey.

Fran Tarkenton picks apart Brett Favre's

NFL legend quarterback, Fran Tarkenton, said he hopes that Brett Farve signs with the Vikings so he can fail. That is pretty harsh coming from someone of his caliber. He does not like the treatment or Farve's action toward the Packers. His opinion of Farve was even more harsh when he saidhe has been a great flamboyant quarterback, but he has made more stupid plays than any great quarterback NFL legend. HAHA! Wow he did not stop even there. He said he was the reason that they lost to the Giants in the NFC championship. But all of this could be coming from the fact that Tarkenton never won a Super Bowl ring in his three tries.

Slowwww

Well not much news today. Well other than the usual of the Favre rumors. I mean, I probably won't report on that unless something believable comes out. Every time a story comes out, there is another that disputes the reliability of that source. So until I hear something straight from the agent or horse's mouth, I won't keeping posting useless stuff.

On the other hand out of Washington,DC, Jim Zorn is waiting for one of his young receivers to step up at split end. They spent two draft picks on Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly and would like one of them to become the starter this season. Both have a lot of potential but they need to know how to tap into it and use it.

Update

As I talked about earlier, Derek Fisher has been suspended for game 3. Also Rafer Alston has been suspended for slapping the *** out of Eddie House [haha]. Kobe Bryant on the other hand, just received a slap on the wrist. They said his play [with Artest] was a flagrant 1 foul. Kobe did it so slick and tried to make it look like he did it inadvertently. I know one thing though, "hit me in my [expletive] throat again." LoL, gotta love NBA Playoffs!

In the NFL, Brett Favre ending the rumors of coming back to the NFL [well at least to the Vikings]. He will make his announcement soon about his "retirement". All of this is according to random sources so i caution you with Brett Farve news. You never know what is what until you see it. I just bring it to you when I hear it.  I also reported earlier that Marvin Harrison was done but his agent says that is far from the truth.

"I played in 15 games last year and a playoff game, and I intend to play again this season." --Marvin Harrison

So I guess he will be waiting for someone to pick him up. Maybe he can get picked up closer to training camps in July.

Summer of Favre? Again

Well here we go again folks. This guy will never retire and will play football until his body has begun to deteriorate. Reports has it that Bret Favre wants to still play football and is more than 50-50 on returning to the game of football. He has a meeting schedule with Childress sometime this week to discuss possibilities of joining the team. But yseterday, Trent Difler said he texted Favre and asked him was he coming back and he said No. I am guessing that his choice is probably anyone's guesses. If he does though, he would have to have surgery on his biceps that he tore. Personally, I wish the man would've left his legacy alone a while back for the Packers, but I guess it is hard to come down from that high horse once you been up there for so long [Michael Jordan-Wizards]. The urge is always going to be there because he is a competitor but you gotta walk away with some respect.

Note: Favre turns 40 in October.

Early Summer Updates

Well the mini camps have started now so that means which NFL big name player will be skipping these days. In Carolina, the big name is Julius Peppers. Although, it is not that big of a deal because he does not have to be there. He has to report to the mandatory training camp in July though.

In New England, the training for the Rodney Harrison's replacement has started. Patrick Chung [2nd rd] is eager to learn from Harrison, whose hard hitting style is similar to his. Patriots staff are always on top of things. Sometime people question the things that they do, but it seems to always work out.

I have been hearing lately a few rumors about Brett Favre. I really hope we don't start that again this summer. Reportedly he has hired a trainer...?? Ok, maybe he just wants to stay in shape. Now people have come up with the scenerio that he will be joining the Vikings and that is the reason that they did not pursue a QB. That's just bogus, I think they believe in Sage Rosenfels [.....].

You want your star linebacker to bounce back from an injury? Just get people to critize his play ability. Thats the case for the Charger's Shawne Merriman whose "footballhood" has been questioned. He is now ready to start the season and give everybody all that he has. Mr. Lights Out, I hope you bring it because your team's window for winning the Super Bowl with this group is almost closed.
