Jimmy Williams, the cornerback out of VT 2 years ago, has been released by the 49ers. He was drafted by the Falcons in 2006 but was released by them when he did not make adequate progress. The Niners signed him to be the back up strong safety, but when he did not lose weight they signed a rookie instead. He was just signed by them in January after not playing last season. I was hoping he could start his career anew in San Fran but I guess not. Here is Coach Singletary's quote on his release:
“Right now, we just felt it was the best thing to do. It is a numbers game. We feel good about the guys that we have and wanted to give it a look and see how it would work out, and just felt like, ‘You know what, right now is the best time to make that decision.’”
Also out the the Niners camp, former UMiami quarterback, Kirby Freeman was also released by the Niners.
