The United States beat Greece 88-80 in Auckland, New Zealand on Sunday to win the FIBA under-19 world basketball championships. Tyshawn Taylor [Kansas] contributed 18 points and five steals to lead the United States, who won the gold medal last time at Edmonton, Canada in 1991. The win broke a 18 year gold medal drought. This team was truly a team because they had no outstanding stars like the past. Players such as Michael Beasley, Stephen Curry, Jonny Flynn, J.J. Redick, Deron Williams, Nick Collison, Steve Logan, Vince Carter and Stephon Marbury have all represented the United States in the championships, but none came away with the goal like this year's team. A notable player on this year's team was Seth Curry [Stephen's brother].
